When should you rebuild or replace your Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve?

One of the first signs of a failure in the EGR valve is the reduction of engine performance. A clogged or defective EGR valve may interfere with the engine's air to fuel mixture, affecting performance, such as power reduction, the torque, and fuel efficiency.

In addition, a failure in the EGR valve can cause the engine to not run at idle speed. It is not uncommon that an EGR valve, which shows malfunctions, remains in the so-called open position. This can cause the recirculation of exhaust gases to occur when the conditions are not desirable.

A turned on warning light in the dashboard (check engine light) is another sign of failure in the EGR valve. When the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects faults in the position circuit of the EGR valve, the warning light will light up to inform the driver. The warning light can also be lit by a large number of other causes, therefore it is advisable to check the car for fault codes first so that the fault can be determined.

When should you rebuild or replace your Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor?

Pollution in the MAF sensor can interfere with the engine's air to fuel mixture due to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) receiving incorrect airflow values under certain conditions. This will cause the engine to run on too rich or too lean mixtures under certain conditions and therefore it will not function properly. A completely failed MAF sensor will not send data about the airflow to the ECU. This prevents the ECU from accurately regulating the fuel and results in a motor that is limited or not stationary at all.

A turned om warning light in the dashboard (check engine light) is another sign of a malfunction in the MAF sensor. When the ECU detects faults in the airflow values, the warning light lights up to notify the driver. The warning light can also be lit by a large number of other causes, therefore it is advisable to scan the car for fault codes first so that the fault can be determined.
